Once seedlings develop, provide plenty of light and wait about a month before you replant them in your yard or a larger pot. You want to give the seedling time to develop a good sized root system before moving it to its permanent home.

Be very careful when watering your seedlings, as too much water early on can suffocate and kill the seedling. To avoid over-saturating the soil, use a spray bottle to provide moisture. Give the seedlings a good spray every morning until the soil turns dark and feels damp to touch. Plants that don’t receive enough water will compensate by not growing to full capacity. This is largely to increase the plants’ chances of survival. Of course, too much water can cause the plants to lose out on valuable oxygen. Leaves will start to wither and the plant and growth medium will become more susceptible to diseases and bacteria.

The soil needs to stay not too dry and not over-soaked. The seedling won’t use much water, but a lot of the water evaporates fast. This is the major reason why seedlings should never go on a windowsill or near a heater.

If you are using tap water, it’s a good idea to let the water sit for a day before use. The chlorine in tap water can damage all the good bacteria and fungi in your plant’s soil. Keeping a watering can next to your pot is a great way to make sure you have healthy water available to your plant when she needs it. If you live in an area with exceptionally hard or soft water, water that has a pH below 5 or above 8, consider getting a filter or using bottled water for your cannabis plant.

The seedlings will grow a little each day and will begin to droop as the skinny stem tries to support the big leaves. As your seedlings get taller, they could use somebody to lean on. Use chopsticks or popsicle sticks to provide some support. As they continue to grow, if they lean in a different direction than the support stick, gently remove it and reset it in a spot that provides support. It also helps to use a twist tie to secure the stem to the support to make sure it’s always standing up straight.

Over the course of about two months, your seedling will grow taller and continue to sprout new sets of leaves, making it look more and more like the cannabis plant you’ve envisioned it being.
